The house is located in Blankenburg on the northern edge of the Harz Mountains in a local recreation area with direct access to the R1 cycle path. Its central location between the well-known Harz towns of Wernigerode, Halberstadt, Quedlinburg, Thale, Hasselfelde, Rübeland and Braunlage, directly on the Romanesque Road, makes it an ideal starting point for exploring the Harz.
Blankenburg itself with its baroque castle and gardens, the historic old town, the stately villas, the parks, the two castles, the Regenstein castle ruins, the Cistercian monastery of Michaelstein, the Ziegenkopf, the Teufelsmauer with the Grandfather Rock, the Teufelsbad spa clinic, the mill hiking trail, the climbing park and the bio leisure pool offers numerous destinations that want to be discovered and explored. Blankenburg's surroundings offer an extensive network of hiking trails. Hiking enthusiasts particularly enjoy planning tours via the destinations in the Harzer Wandernadel programme. More information is available online or from the local tourist information centres.
Your holiday home is located on a fenced-in natural plot of approx. 900 square metres directly next to the forest, where you will find plenty of space to relax and unwind, whether alone or with children. During the day you can explore the surrounding area on foot, by bike, in your own car or by public transport. One of the steepest railway lines in Germany, the Rübelandbahn, passes close to the house. On special weekends, the traditional steam train runs on this railway line to Rübeland and back. Trips on the Harz narrow-gauge railway to the Brocken or through the Selke valley, for example, are a special experience. With the narrow-gauge railway, you can enjoy the Harz landscape in a relaxed manner or integrate individual sections of the route into your outdoor activities.
At the Rappbode Dam, you can explore the dam wall and the facilities from the suspension bridge or on a ride on the double rope slide, including an adrenaline rush. In addition to Wernigerode and Quedlinburg, you should also visit Thale with its Bodetal Adventure World, the cable cars, summer toboggan run, mountain theatre, the Bodetal thermal baths, the Hexentanzplatz and the Roßtrappe. On hot days, we recommend a hike from Treseburg through the Bode Valley to Thale. For families with children, there is also Pullmanncity in Hasselfelde, the Rübeländer caves or a rowing boat trip on the reservoir in Wendefurth. The stories of knights and castles can be told in Blankenburg with a visit to the Regenstein castle ruins and the knightly Thingplatz. A hike on the Devil's Wall is particularly exciting. There are plenty of opportunities for children to climb and make discoveries here.
Michaelstein Monastery with the Mönchemühlen ponds, the mill hiking trail and the Wilhelm Raabe Warte and Ziegenkopf viewpoints are all within easy walking distance of your accommodation.
Baby cots/chairs are available on prior request. The Hohegeiß winter sports resort with 3 T-bar lifts is 26 km away.
