Holidays in Ayia Napa

The area and getting around

Keep in mind when you go shopping

To go shopping in the city closest to Ayia Napa: Larnaca, you should know that you will find the same style of objects and prices as in other large cities such as Limassol and Nicosia, all as always centred in the historical centre of the city. We do not recommend shopping by the beaches, as these shops tend to be tourist centres away from the big cities and are dedicated more than anything to enjoyment and fun. The variety of objects to buy is small and the cost is much higher than on the rest of the island.

Transportation around Ayia Napa

You can take a taxi or book it in advance and ensure a good price. Most of the people start their journey to the beaches from Larnaca, the largest city in the area. The biggest attraction in the area are the beaches, and there is a street that runs through the entire area. There are public buses that take you from one area to another without major problems; however, they do not go as far as the Cavo Greco peninsula; to visit this area you would have to walk.

Travellers and activities

Ayia Napa for all types of travellers

In the city you will find adequate entertainment not only for fans of nightclubs but also for those who relax with children. They have to visit the Marine amusement park. There is a large water park with an abundance of hills and swimming pools, and a karting-centre, and the Dinosaur Park, as well as numerous cafes and bars. On the territory of the Marine Park there are some establishments at night, that is why the cheerful atmosphere reigns here throughout the day.

Ayia Napa for all ages

The Thalassa Museum is the perfect place for people of any age. Well, even though Ayia Napa is a party town, it has one of the best museums in Cyprus. The Thalassa Museum has been open to the public since 2005 and is the best attraction in the Mediterranean, consecrated to the sea. Given the catalogue of seafaring civilisations that settled in Cyprus, this is the ideal location for such an attraction. The museum wraps around 7,000 years of human nautical history, with exhibits that address the Neolithic age and move through the Bronze Age to the Classic period. Complementing these artifacts are natural displays of fossils and shells, along with preserved specimens of turtles, fish, and starfish.

Larnaca has its own international airport, so it is an entry point to the island of Cyprus if you are coming to the country

Top 5 travel tips in Ayia Napa

1.Visit Konnos Bay

This is the best local beach if you want to get away from your holiday home and get back to nature. Konnos has a narrow semicircle of sparkling white sands and crystal clear waters. This bay is surrounded by long rocky foothills that help protect the beach from the currents and prevailing winds. Yachts often dock in the bay and these shoals are perfect for snorkelling and swimming.

2. Enjoy Nissi Beach

As beautiful as it is lively, Nissi Beach is ideal for party lovers and families alike. For partiers, there are beachside clubs with pools and DJs. Other sources of fun come from cliff jumping a bit along the promontory that juts out into the sea on the west side of the beach, as well as the endless variety of water sports available. Visitors with children can find a lounge away from the hustle and bustle and simply bask in those white sands and crystal clear aquamarine waters.

3. Meet Cape Greco

East of Ayia Napa is this rugged headland protected as part of a natural park. As you approach Cape Greco from land, you can hike along trails lined with wild grasses, poppies, and tall grasses. At the top of the cliffs, there are benches, from which you can admire the cobalt blue Mediterranean and the rocky and desolate landscape that surrounds it. A little to the west are the four radio masts of the medium wave broadcasting station.

4. Tour the Sculpture Park

Recently opened, the Sculpture Park is a curious cultural attraction on a prominence overlooking the sea east of Ayia Napa. Twenty sculptors from around the world were seeking to contribute their work to the park. His sculptures, numbering almost 40, combined with a classic Mediterranean seascape, make the park a practical place for a leisurely stroll. The pieces are carved from white marble or local limestone and range from abstract shapes to statues inspired by the ancient civilizations of the island.

5. Do not miss the Sea Caves

They are also part of Cape Greco, these caves have been carved over time by currents, and you can access them from the water or by a path that cuts below the promontory by One Way. There is a natural arch and cavities that go deep into the honeycomb rock, so you can spend hours exploring this strange, but beautiful place.
