Alvor’s Castle sits on top of an ancient mall. After taking the town of Alvor, the Moors decided to improve the defense mechanisms to protect the town and built this castle. Sturdy walls and a quadrangular blueprint are the main features of this fort.

On the western side of the Algarve there is Ria de Alvor, a nature reserve with a stunning landscape extending for about 1500 hectares. Take a walk along the elevated wooden paths by the beach and the dunes and take in the views of this impressive wetland system with salt marshes and mud flats, home to multiple species and an extensive flora. This is a great opportunity for birdwatchers to enjoy a relaxed day admiring the birds. Bikes are also allowed on the paths so if you prefer going on wheels, you are more than welcome.
