Rotterdam is a dynamic, fast-changing city that offers visitors to the city a wide range of homes. Then there is the Cool District replete with yet more trendy bars and undoubtedly the best shopping in the city.

An edgy port town that boasts a booming art, design and food scene that you simply have to explore, Rotterdam it is the epitome of cool. In terms of modern developments within the art world, there is no other city like in the Netherlands. Vibrant and unique, check out Rotterdam’s street art scene, particularly around the area of Schiestraat, just two minutes from the central station. Join the locals on a Saturday and take in one of the city’s flea markets such as Swan Market, where you can find retro wares and second-hand clothes, then grab lunch in one of the hip food trucks at the entrance to the market. Later on, swing by one of the city’s many ultra-trendy bars, such as the centrally located BAR; sit down, order an artisan beer and enjoy a blend of fusion music.

When it comes to architecture, the port of Rotterdam is quite simply a global powerhouse. Visit the famous Cube-Houses, 40 yellow houses in the shape of tilted cubes, each perched on pillars, like a forest of houses. The nearby Rotterdam Markthal is another delight, a horseshoe-shaped building with a mind-blowing brightly coloured ceiling, home to the city’s new covered market hall and over 200 apartments. Nieuwe Luxor Theatre, considered Netherlands’ prettiest theatre, offers its lucky visitors a spacious interior with numerous wide staircases, glass columns and spectacular panoramas over the River Maas. And there are many more buildings that dazzle the senses, making Rotterdam a true bucket-list city for lovers of architecture!

Located on the south-side of the river, this small collection of sand has amazing views over the Rotterdam skyline.

By far the best way to get around the city is by bicycle. With an extensive network of bike paths and easy-to-access locations, you can rent a bike for less than 7 euros a day.

With its numerous skyscrapers, Rotterdam is called the Manhattan at the Maas. At 180 metres, the Euromast is the highest point in the city. Soak in the city’s impressive skyline while having a lunch in the tower’s restaurant!

Dudok apple pie is considered the best apple pie in the country. Served at Café Dudok, a modern brasserie known for its hip and trendy crowd, it is absolutely sumptuous!
